On Tuesday June 14, 2022 I played with my usual group of ladies: Esther Gaudet and Colette Taylor, who play with me because we are friends in from other connections, not golf skills. Ladies night was a day late due to the weather.
The Tuesday event was a special concession to the bad weather as the last two Monday Ladies night events had been rained or drowned out! On the Tuesday we still suffered from the effects of the rain. I got a geography lesson as Roanoke is mostly a farm field, with clay soil. It does not drain well. Facebook and email traffic told the would-be players that NO CARTS WERE ALLOWED. WALKERS ONLY. My friend and I usually cart. We still participated in the event. I tend to be the slow person in the group and keep track of time so was conscious that the first two holes took about an hour to play not good. The other two players told me not to worry we had lots of time. We can let others through. Help would the afternoon get any longer?? Or the score get any higher? We let one group through who we knew and carried on at our own pace. I measure the success of a golf event by how many golf balls I loose. I only lost one! So the game looked up. We did manage to pick up the pace as we navigated through the mud. Colette Taylor, who plays with us because we are friends, decided she was going to try to get the closest to the noodle. She had a great drive and made it within about 12 feet. We started the gruelling 9 holes at 3: 15 and ended about 6: 15. Considering everything timing not bad. We unwound by having a cold beverage at the club house.
I would like to thank Roanoke for posting the results of our wet event the next day: Colette won her B flight and also closest to the Noodle and I won a Participation prize for D flight. So our efforts were acknowledged. I think it would be great PR if Roanoke gave everyone who participated a special award for showing up!
